Cookies and Cache was launched in 2024 and I am loving working with small business owners from my own community - people I meet at the gym and around the place.

Distinguished and Famous people from Circular Head

🏛️ Joseph Lyons

Joseph Lyons was born at Stanley in 1879, giving Circular Head a direct connection with Australia's tenth prime minister. He later became a schoolteacher and Tasmanian premier before entering federal politics and co-founding the United Australia Party. His prime ministership lasted from 1932 until his death in 1939. His childhood also included years at Ulverstone, which lies outside Circular Head. Stanley is the birthplace link in a career that crossed from state Labor politics to leadership of a different party at the national level.

🌿 Jim Willis

Jim Willis moved to Stanley with his family in 1913, when his father became the local bank manager. At primary school a teacher noticed his interest in plants and gave him a project to collect and name the grasses nearby. That small assignment anticipated a distinguished botanical career. Willis later worked at Victoria’s National Herbarium, identified plants for the public and produced the two-volume A Handbook to Plants in Victoria. Stanley’s connection is a real childhood home and school, where an attentive teacher turned curiosity about ordinary local vegetation into a more purposeful pursuit.
